I typically don’t make resolutions. At first it was a silly I-refuse-to-conform statement, which I continued to follow. That’s not to say I never set goals or led my life with a purpose. I figured I was doing that all year long, so I didn’t need to set resolutions, only to be broken (and make myself feel like shit when I broke the resolution).
This year I discovered the location independent and lifestyle design blogs. So, I’ve decided to set out goals now for 2010 using my variation of the Free Pursuits method. I’ve broken out main areas of my life to focus on: health, work, fun, language, and travel. I’ve set out goals in each area for the next 3 months, next 6 months, next year, and next 3 years. And, I’ve created tasks for each of my goals. There is a spreadsheet (or two) involved.
I’ve never been so anal specific about my goals before. It’s easy when you’re in school or working for someone else to just coast along. I started a variation of this structure two months ago, with excellent results. I’ve been mocked by co-workers for my detailed to-do lists. This is simply a more ambitious version of those. I am looking forward to a more goal oriented and productive year.
December 31 Resolution you wish you'd stuck with. (You know, there's always next year...)
